What are my license entitlements?

Most desktop and app licences on CSP enable users to instal the software on up to five computers, including five tablets and five cell phones. Furthermore, the majority of licences can be used as user CALs and support dual use.

What happens to a customer tenant using both open and CSP licenses?

The existing approved users and the consumer occupant are unaffected. You can easily order more licences from CSP or pass expired licences to CSP.

How do I connect/transition a tenant to MyCSP?

There are a couple of things to check before you move your customers' licenses from other licensing channels or from other partners to MyCSP.


  1. To move a tenant with subscriptions from Open program: First check the expiry date of your customer's Microsoft online subscription. Move to myCSP program within 30 days upon expiry of your customer's subscription.

  2. To move a tenant with subscriptions from Web direct (direct purchase from Microsoft): First follow the instructions below to transition the tenant and purchase the subscriptions through myCSP. Then, raise your service request online in the Office 365 admin center and ask the billing support team to cancel the subscription, stating that the customer is moving to CSP program so that Microsoft will waive the early termination penalty equivalent to 1-month subscription.

  3. To move subscriptions from other CSP indirect providers or other CSP direct resellers to  myCSP: Follow the steps below to transition the tenant and create a subscription with the correct license quantity through myCSP. Then, cancel the subscription with the existing CSP partner. You will need to ensure that your customer's contractual obligation with the previous reseller is fulfilled to avoid any dispute.

  4. To move subscriptions from another CSP reseller to you: Please raise a support case at support@umbrellar.com . You will need to ensure that your customer's contractual obligation with the previous CSP reseller is fulfilled to avoid any dispute.

How do I order additional licenses?

Do my licenses expire?

Microsoft CSP is a monthly subscription licensing service that charges per user. When a subscription is established, it is for a year; however, the consumer may add/renew users and cancel the subscription at any time without penalty. As long as the SKU is still valid in the CSP scheme, the subscription will be auto-renewed, and the licenses will not expire as long as the subscription period is renewed.

When a new subscription is established, there is also a price guarantee for the first 12 months. For a 12-month subscription, the consumer would pay the same price as at the beginning and during the subscription period. When a subscription is created, pre-existing pricing is applied. When a customer renews an existing subscription after the first 12 months, the customer pays the same price for the next 12 months.

If an SKU is retired, you must assist the customer in updating the SKU in the MyCSP portal to the current replacement SKU.
